Wood-Mizer band saw fulfils American sawyer’s tree house dream for grandchildren

Wood-Mizer band saw fulfils American sawyer’s tree house dream for grandchildren William Schweikert, Springville, New York has owned his Wood-Mizer band sawmill for many years, using it to good effect when building seven structures on his land. Additionally, he gained enjoyment from restoring an old, solid building dating back to the times of Abraham Lincoln and stage coaches.Recently, he also built and erected a tree house for his twelve grandchildren. First, he bought in 15cm diameter, three-metres long logs, sawed them on his mill and created a solid, safe floor up the tree.

Beams were cut from white ash. Other elements –– walls, hand-rails and roof –– are cherry wood. The roof consists of green tiles which resemble a forest canopy. American ‘Snoopy’ and ‘Woodstock’ cartoons in wood decorate the underside of the roof.

William Schweikert reports that the grandchildren clamber up to the treehouse the moment they arrive but when it is windy they sleep indoors saying: "Mother Nature is rocking their cradle". The whole thing cost $1,000.
