Wood-Mizer timber processing demonstration to be held in Welsh forest, UK
A demonstration of sawmill technology designed to help woodland owners and contractors add value and enter new markets through the simple conversion of round timber into sawn lumber takes place at Esgair Forest, Pantperthog, Machynlleth, Wales on Friday 20th May.
The site is an impressive woodland location with Esgair Timber Company’s large sawmill building constructed entirely from wood sawn on its Wood-Mizer band sawmill. The event is arranged by Stephen Cull, (pictured right) Wood-Mizer’s regional agent for Wales and the West of England. Stephen, who has his own Wood-Mizer based sawmilling business, has represented Wood-Mizer for 15 years.
Being demonstrated are both mobile and static versions of Wood-Mizer’s popular LT40 log breakdown sawmills which can produce accurately sawn material with minimal waste. Using Wood-Mizer’s blade technology, refined over 30 years, simplicity and low running costs are possible.
Further timber conversion, adding more value, will be shown by a range of edgers, multi-rips, shingle/lapsiders and planer/moulder. Blade maintenance kit will also be demonstrated.
As well as this contractor’s industrial sawmilling equipment, Wood-Mizer’s entry level sawmill will be shown. This is very popular with small scale woodcraft operators and woodland owners.
Stephen comments: “The Esgair Timber company’s enterprise is an exciting and far sighted project for sustainable, locally based high quality timber production. Making the whole project possible is Wood-Mizer’s range of versatile, relatively low-cost band sawmills which permit a profitable response to demand for sawn timber from locally grown timber.”
“The secondary processing equipment takes the process into a rewarding next step. We are very grateful to Esgair Timber company for allowing us to mount these demonstrations on its site,” he adds.
