Public sector band sawmill use increasing
The second-smallest band saw in the Wood-Mizer range, the LT15 can in a recent development be fitted with a debarker (on AC models) and ‘Setworks’ although the petrol version is used to demonstrate them. The LT15 which features a powered up/down head drive was introduced in 1997 and now more than 5,000 operate worldwide.
In a new development, the mill can now fitted with optional, upgraded ‘setworks’ replacing the previous version. The new setworks have more functions with a memory that permits several preset board thicknesses.
Greater use of this small band saw by local authorities, park managers, large garden centres and anyone with relatively modest timber sawing needs is expected as a result of the improvements.
The relatively low cost mills bring a welcome opportunity for harvesting diseased, damaged or dangerous trees which would often be consigned to landfill after felling.
Wood-Mizer is currently promoting the LT15 and also its smaller LT10 band sawmills after ‘time and effort’ analyses of production at its European manufacturing facility. New approaches to its engineering design, purchasing, manufacture, assembly and transportation have saved costs.
According to Wood-Mizer, the six months review results in cost reductions without compromising quality. It also says that the price cuts enable it to promote this particular product range and open new markets for its products.
